Glaxo sues over Avodart patents

Jan. 14, 2011 GlaxoSmithKline L.L.C., which has operations in Philadelphia, sued generic-drug makers Anchen Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Banner Pharmacaps Inc. in federal court in Delaware, alleging infringement of patents for Avodart, which is used to treat enlarged prostate glands, Bloomberg News reported. Glaxo last month lost its bid for approval from the Food and Drug Administration to expand use of Avodart to men at risk for prostate cancer.

2010年12月29日目前台灣國產藥廠大多著眼在專利過期後的學名藥開發，惟近年來學名藥利潤逐年下滑，因此如何開發具有市場競爭力的藥品與技術及如何有效推動藥品外銷便成為我國製藥產業發展的一大議題。為此安成國際藥業預計開發長效緩釋劑型、口服懸浮液劑型與貼片劑型，此類產品具有預期獲利可觀的第四類未到期專利認證(Paragraph IV) ，亦即挑戰原廠專利的簡明新藥申請程序 (Abbreviated New Drug Application，ANDA)申請案，計畫成功後不僅可達學名藥產業產值倍增的目的，對於當前學名藥市場亦有示範作用。本計畫預計開發的產品將於2014年起陸續取得美國食品暨藥物管理局的簡明新藥申請程序上市許可，產品上市後預估年產值最高可達1.5億美元以上，將可使國產學名藥廠進入國際市場，並提升我國在世界學名藥產業的地位。
