Another tainted drug removed from shops
18/06/2011 The local health authority has recalled another drug allegedly tainted with a toxic plasticiser manufactured in Taiwan. According to a press statement released by the Health Bureau (SSM) yesterday, plasticiser DINP was found in the anti-inflammatory enzyme 'Dedema E. C. Tab 5mg,' produced by the 'Standard Chemical & Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd' lab, in Taiwan. This drug was only supplied to local private clinics, according to importation records. The SSM has asked importers and distributors to remove this product from the market. The health authority has also called on private clinics to stop prescribing this drug and for the public not to use this drug. Plasticiser DINP could have a strong impact in the hepatic system if overused and consumed for a long time, SSM warned.
