Southern Taiwan Science Park posts double-digit sales growth
2011/06/13 19:09:45 Taipei, June 13 (CNA) The Southern Taiwan Science Park had double-digit sales growth in March and April compared with the first two months of the year thanks to higher demand for flat panels and precision machinery, the park's administrator said Monday. Companies in the park had combined sales in March and April of NT$101.8 billion (US$3.52 billion) , up 20.36 percent from the January-February figure, the Southern Taiwan Science Park Administration said in a statement.The new figures brought the total sales of park companies to NT$186.3 billion for the first fourth months of the year. The Southern Taiwan Science Park is comprised of 110 companies based at the Tainan Science Park and another 64 companies based at the Kaohsiung Science Park, employing more than 60,000 people. Optoelectronics companies generated sales of NT$54.6 billion in the March-April period, 13.01 percent higher than the previous two-month period and the highest of the park's six major industries. The semiconductor industry came in second, with NT$38.7 billion in sales, up 25.67 percent from the previous period, followed by the precision machinery industry, which saw sales rise 62.9 percent from January and February to NT$6.3 billion. Biotechnology sector sales rose 54.7 percent to NT$919 million, communication industry sales were up 33.54 percent to NT$557 million, and computer industry sales rose 31.33 percent to NT$312 million.
