2013/12/24 20:04:20 Taipei, Dec. 24 (CNA) Taiwan is open to work with free trade zones of other countries on certain industries in its free economic pilot zone project, an economic official said Tuesday.Jan Fang-guan, head of the Council for Economic Planning and Development's Department of Sectoral Planning, said Premier Jiang Yi-huah issued the cooperation instruction while being briefed on Taiwan's free economic pilot zone project recently.Besides China's Pilot Free Trade Zone in Shanghai, the premier said, Taiwan can also work with other economic areas in China, as well as free trade zones in the United States and Japan.The possible areas in which Taiwan can work with the free trade zone in Shanghai, Jan said, include easier customs clearance and Chinese yuan-related financial activities.The two sides are interested in working together, but no talks on details have been formally held, he added.Jan also mentioned that several Japanese companies have expressed interest in business operations in Taiwan's free economic pilot zone, such as logistics.Taiwan officially launched the first phase of its free economic pilot zone project in August, covering the country's six major seaports, the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and the Pingtung Agricultural Biotechnology Park.A draft act governing such zones is expected to be reviewed by the Cabinet this week before being sent to the Legislature by the year-end.
