IBMI to Set up Committee to Accelerate Biomedical Development

 

 2012/09/24 Taipei, Sept.22, 2012 (CENS)--Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry (IBMI), a government-based organization for Taiwan's biomedical development, announced to establish a committee, to be led by Den-yih Wu (vice president of Taiwan), to enhance biotechnology policy, cross-strait medical science, talent cultivation, and technology authorization. A representative of IBMI says, after setting up the committee, the institute will complete organizational structure, task distribution, press conference, and work schedule in two weeks, relying on support from the Office of the President, Cabinet, and legislature for help. The IBMI has just publicized to modify, promote 33 biotechnology policies over three years and in three phases, aiming to widen its range to transform biotechnology into the new trillion-NT-dollar industry. The IBMI also looks to the committee to boost industry-academy cooperation to introduce 4,000 biotechnology graduates into industry. Co-op-educational programs will help develop talents who can bring skills into industry, with many biotechnology companies showing willingness to join the programs. With the Cross-Strait Cooperation Agreement on Medicine and Public Health Affairs, signed in 2010 but not progressing, the IBMI also hopes the committee to accelerate cross-strait medical exchange.(by Andrew Wang)
