Taiwan national biotechnology incubation center!

Taiwanese scholar to help set up biotech incubation center: GIO 2011/06/29 Taipei, June 29 (CNA) A respectable US-based Taiwanese scholar has agreed to return to Taiwan to help establish a national biotechnology incubation center, the Government Information Office (GIO) said on Wednesday. According to GIO, Cyrus Chu, minister without portfolio, went to the U.S to recruit talented people. He ended up bagging Su Huai-jen, Taiwan's biotechnology overseas consultant, who has consented to help set up the Supra Incubation Center. GIO said Su will choose 3-4 potential new medicines and medical devices from the National Science and Technology Program for Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals (NSTPBP), National Research Program for Genomic Medicine (NRPGM) and National Research Program for Biopharmaceuticals (NRPB). He will offer his assistance to help bring these products to market. Su, 60, graduated from National Taiwan University's chemical engineering department. He also has two Ph.D. degrees from the University of California Berkeley and the University of California at San Francisco. He once worked for Biogen Idec, a biotechnology company, and Shire Pharmaceuticals. The incubation center was an idea he developed five years ago. GIO pointed out that the incubation center is a key initiative of the "Biotechnology Takeoff Package," which was launched by the Executive Yuan in 2009. The center will provide integrated services to labs and companies that want to take their biotechnology innovations to market.
