AUGUST 9, 2012 - 9:15AM China and Taiwan, who have had a troubled relationship, are to sign agreements between the two nations. The two pacts are to enhance co-operation and two way trade, granting customs clearance and effective cargo supervision.China's chief negotiator Chen Yunlin said, "This year and next year, we will spare no effort in forging ahead with negotiations for signing cross-Straits agreements on the trade of services and goods and the settlement of disputes regarding the ECFA."His Taiwanese counterpart Chiang Pin-kung said, "The agreement will have a beneficial impact on all businesses and will improve the investment environment," and he added, "It will help boost the competitiveness for both sides amidst growing globalisation and regional coooperation."Details of the agreement will be issued after the signing. The two negotiators have met eight times in four years to discuss the deal.There were protests from taiwanese, who distrust Beijing. "I oppose the deals because China is trying to control Taiwan's economy so it can rule Taiwan," one protestor, Chen Che told journalists.
