Living Longer With Coffee

HealthDay June 1, 2012 Coffee may not just keep you awake longer it might help keep you alive longer, too! Experts have had trouble figuring out whether coffee may be good or bad for your health. The latest study on this subject out of the New England Journal of Medicine puts this popular drink squarely in the good column.Researchers followed more than 400,000 older people for more than a decade. As people drank more cups of coffee each day, their risk of dying fell. Men who drank at least six cups daily were 10-percent less likely to die than men who didn't drink any. Women who drank half a dozen cups were 15-percent less likely to die. Coffee was also linked to lower risk of death from heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. This study doesn't prove that coffee was the cause of the lower risk, according to the researchers, but your morning Joe does contain chemicals that could have an effect in your body, including antioxidants. I'm Dr. Cindy Haines of HealthDay TV, with information that can help keep your family healthy.
